Hiretech’s Highly Commended Apprentice

Hiretech is celebrating the success of apprentice James Farquhar, who has been awarded a Highly Commended accolade by the judging panel at the recent prestigious Press and Journal Gold Awards.

James, aged 19, joined Hiretech in August 2014 and has since been undertaking an HNC in Engineering at North East Scotland College in Fraserburgh. Now in his 4th year as an apprentice Maintenance Technician, James’ main duties include the preparation and maintenance of equipment prior to mobilising for client offshore hire.

James has demonstrated a real passion for his job and a willingness to learn, continuously developing his knowledge and abilities. These traits underpinned his nomination for the Apprentice Award, and were reflected in the comments received from the award judging panel.

James, who was unable to attend the awards ceremony due to undertaking his first global offshore project, was pleased to learn of his achievement, commenting, “I’m thrilled to receive a Highly Commended award, it means a lot to me and recognises what I have accomplished during my apprenticeship.  It is also recognition for the team that has mentored me throughout my apprenticeship and got me to the stage I am today. I very much look forward to progressing in my role and developing my career in the industry”.

Managing Director at Hiretech, Andy Buchan, added, “James has demonstrated a real commitment to both his college studies and his working role at Hiretech.  He is a respected team player who works hard to turn around jobs efficiently and effectively, bringing youth and enthusiasm to the team. His positive approach and determination to learn were the key reasons he was nominated for this award.  I’m delighted for James that his efforts have been recognised at this level.”

Gold Award Finalist
Key Appointments Support Developing Business Operations

Hiretech Limited has made significant key appointments as it continues to strengthen its business operations.

The company, a leading independent equipment rental, sales, service and maintenance company offering pumping spreads, powered umbilical reels, hydraulic power packs and supporting equipment, made the appointments to support an increase in product offerings and associated services.

John Milne has been promoted to General Manager, while Jim McGregor joins the company as Project Manager.

Mr Milne, who has 27 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, joined Hiretech in 2014 as Engineering Manager.  Following this recent promotion, he is now responsible for overseeing the company’s day to day operations, including coordinating equipment schedules, resources and staff.

Referring to the promotion, Mr Milne said “I am delighted to have been offered and to accept this new role.  Having worked with the team here for nearly three years, I believe the level of commitment and service offered to our clients is one of the company’s major strengths and I intend to ensure this continues alongside the ongoing supply of high standard, reliable product packages”.

Bringing with him 36 years of global oil and gas experience, the majority of which has been spent in employment at an oil service company, Mr McGregor joins Hiretech in the new role of Project Manager, in which he is responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of projects, frequently interacting with the client base to ensure efficient and effective solutions.

Mr McGregor commented, “I am excited to join such a forward thinking and innovative company and look forward to working with the team here.  I have used Hiretech as a supplier in past roles and was encouraged by the reactive nature of the business, always willing to go the extra mile for their clients. I look forward to the new challenges this role will bring and to contributing to the ongoing success of the business.”

These appointments follow the recruitment of Steven Ferguson, Business Development Manager last year.  Since starting at the company, Steven has been responsible for developing key accounts with existing and potential clients, and driving sales activity to expand the business in various markets.

Managing Director of Hiretech, Andy Buchan, added, “We have brought together a strong skillset with a wealth of operational, technical and commercial expertise to help drive the business forward.  I am excited about these developments and look forward to working with the team as we continue to cultivate client relationships and capitalise on new business opportunities whilst developing our services across global markets”.

Hiretech Goes Extra Mile To Support Local Children

Hiretech Limited has raised over £1,000 to help support sick, disabled and disadvantaged children living in north-east Scotland.

Andy Buchan, managing director of Hiretech, an oil and gas equipment rental, service and maintenance firm, presented Aberdeen-based charity Cash for Kids with £1,076.50 following a series of fundraising events.

The big-hearted businessman used the occasion of his 50th birthday to raise money for the local children’s charity, requesting donations in lieu of presents.  A subsequent fundraising motorcycle ride with friends and colleagues to the west coast helped to swell the final total.

Eight fellow bikers joined Andy on the return trip from Hiretech’s office at Hatton of Fintray to Applecross, with the route also taking in Ullapool and the Bealach na Ba.  On the 450-mile journey the bikers received light-hearted fines for any misdemeanours and breakdowns.  Andy stipulated that all bikes should be pre-1979 models, a rule he himself broke – and was fined for – by choosing to ride a 1986 Yamaha RD125LC.

The group was supported on the trip by Hiretech’s apprentice engineer James Farquhar.  His services were put to use within minutes of the journey commencing when one of the bikes broke down around two miles outside Hatton of Fintray.

A keen motorcyclist, Andy has supported many charitable causes in recent years and was inspired to support Cash for Kids due to its local nature, with all funds being raised and distributed in the north east. The charity will use the donation to help fulfill applications to its unique quarterly grant funding programme.  The scheme provides grants to individuals, families and community groups to support children and improve their quality of life.

Michelle Ferguson, Cash for Kids charity manager, said: “We are very grateful to Andy and his family, friends and colleagues for their generosity.  The bike trip sounds like it was an eventful journey from the outset and illustrates how fun and imaginative fundraising can be.

“Andy’s efforts will enable Cash for Kids to continue to support a wide range of children, families and community groups in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.  Our aim is to improve the life quality of these children, whether that is a result of disability, illness or poverty.”

Andy added: “Cash for Kids makes a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children and their families in the north-east every year.  The funding it provides can be invaluable.  I am very thankful to everyone who has helped me to fundraise for the charity over the past month, particularly those who were penalised for their unknown misdemeanours on our bike ride.”

Cash for Kids is an Aberdeen-based charity that works to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people under 18 living in north-east Scotland.  The community focused organisation is Northsound Radio’s listeners’ charity.  Along with running a number of campaigns throughout the year, including its annual Mission Christmas children’s gift appeal, Cash for Kids operates a unique quarterly grant giving programme.  Grants are made to individuals, families, children’s groups, organisations and projects throughout the Northsound transmission area.  All of the money that is distributed to these local families and projects has been raised locally.  More information on Cash for Kids can be found at www.northsound1.com/cashforkids or telephone 01224 337010.
